The Unit has the following facilities:-

• Two scanning electron microscopes with digital image capture facilities, atomic number imaging and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX/EDS) Sample Electron micrographs including 3D images
• An extensive image processing and analysis network of computers (PCs and a SUN Workstation) equiped with a range of image capture and processing boards. SEMPER image processing language is used extensively, particularly in the image analysis of soil microfabric
• X-Ray Diffractometer
• X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer
• Research microscopes including Cathodoluminescence and Fluorescence microscopy all with image capture facilities.
