The micrograph was taken in a field emmission scanning elctron microscope in the secondary electron mode. The sample approximately 0.8m depth beneath Avicennia africana mangrove under hypersaline conditions at Bitang Bolon [16 degrees 18 minutes West and 13 degrees 15 minutes north] in The Gambia.

The sample was freeze-dried and coated with gold palladium before observation.

The open cellular structure is formed from kaolinite particles.

If you have access to stereo (red and green) glasses, then the stereo version of the image should be examined to judge the full extent of the three-dimensional pore space.
