Consolidated Kaolin

The micrograph [below] shows effect of image analysis on a sample of consolidated kaolin.

The analysis is automatic and delineates regions of similar orientation.

The procedures used are as follows:-

  • The intensity gradient of the original image was computed at each pixel.
  • A special clustering algorithm was used to define domains of similar orientation.
  • The original image was combined with the domain image to generate the coloured image.

    The index of aniotropy of this image is computed as 0.276 at an orientation of 168 degrees clockwise from the upward vertical
